JOE Kendrick is training with Dunfermline after the Darlington defender turned his back on a move to Hamilton.

Dunfermline yesterday made their move for Kendrick after learning first choice full-back Scott Morrison faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage playing for Scotland Under-21s on Tuesday.

Kendrick had been training with Hamilton and was due to return to the North-East after rejecting the chance to stay at New Douglas Park.

But now Kendrick, who has been made available by Quakers boss David Hodgson, could get the chance to play in the Scottish top flight with Dunfermline.

Dublin-born Kendrick, who joined Quakers on a free transfer from 1860 Munich 13 months ago, has not figured in Hodgson's first-team plans this season.

Kendrick may yet to choose to fight for his Quakers place if a move to Dunfermline fails to materialise, although he will have to compete with Ryan Valentine and summer signing David Duke for the left-back spot.

Alternatively, Kendrick, who can also operate as a winger, could provide the cover Hodgson has been seeking for Carlos Logan and Neil Wainwright.

French midfielder Elie Ikangu trained with his new teammates yesterday, although the 18-year-old will eventually link up with Martin Gray's youth squad.

Hodgson has no fresh injury worries ahead of tomorrow's game at Grimsby Town. Skipper Matt Clarke is fit after recovering from a back problem.

Midfielder Clark Keltie, who hasn't played since January, is making good progress from a cruciate knee ligament injury and is set to return next month. Brian Close is also nearing full fitness after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.

The Quakers boss could yet keep faith with the side which lost to Leyton Orient last weekend as he seeks a good response at Blundell Park. Like Quakers, Grimsby have taken four points from their opening three games.
