POLICE are investigating an arson attack on a derelict house.
The ground floor, first floor and attic of the house in Henderson Street, Darlington, were severely damaged by fire and smoke in the early hours of Monday.
Fire crews were called to the end-terrace house at about 12.30am, but access to the building was hampered by structural damage.
Smoke was also reported to have filtered through into the attics of other houses in the street.
The fire took several hours to be dampened down, and the building was left badly damaged.
Inspector Alan Davidson, of Darlington police, said: "We are treating it as an arson attack, and are investigating."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 606 0365.
