ALES Mejac will return to Slovenia this weekend after Darlington manager David Hodgson chose not to pursue his interest in the winger.

Mejac arrived in the North-East last week on the recommendation of an agent and the 22-year-old is a free agent after leaving the now defunct Slovenian side, NK Mura.

Hodgson is keen to add another out-and-out winger to his squad as cover for Carlos Logan and Neil Wainwright.

However, Mejac, who has represented his country at B and Under-21 level, won't fill that role after training with the club this week.

Hodgson could step up his search for a winger, within the club's wage structure, if Joe Kendrick completes a move to Hamilton. The 22-year-old is training with the Scottish Second Division side with a view to a permanent move this week.

Kendrick still has the remainder of the season to run on his contract, but will be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

Quakers yesterday agreed terms with French midfielder Elie Ikangu. The 18-year-old is awaiting international clearance and will initially link up with Martin Gray's youth side.

Ikangu, a close friend of Newcastle United's Charles N'Zogbia, is a product of Le Havre's youth setup in his native France.

Hodgson takes his Quakers side to Grimsby Town this weekend, determined to redress the balance at Blundell Park after Saturday's below par performance against Leyton Orient.

"The Orient game hurt and I hope it hurt the players as well," said Hodgson. "We were poor in every area and once again we let the fans down.

"We have a very good group of players and I know that they will be determined to put things right down at Grimsby.

"I know what they're capable of, but we need to show that we can perform week-in, week-out and not just when we feel like it."

l The draw for this season's LDV Vans Trophy will take place live on Sky Sports Soccer AM on September 17.
