A DANCE group has been awarded almost £1,500 to help it hire an organist.
Age Concern Consett Dance received the money from the County Durham Foundation's neighbourhood renewal community chest.
The money will be used to hire a professional musician and the hall the group uses at Consett Civic Centre, in Medomsley Road.
Secretary Ron Farclough said: "This dance has been running for over 25 years at the civic centre and our members are very grateful for this donation. It is like a social afternoon for them as there are a lot of older people who do not like going out at night.
"It gives them a chance to have a get together and see their old friends. It also give them a chance to move around a bit and keep fit."
The group is looking for more members. It meets on Tuesdays from 1.30pm to 4pm for modern and sequence dancing, and it costs £1.30 a week to attend. For details call Mr Farclough on (01207) 501318.
