FIVE young people in one day received £50 fines in a crackdown on litterbugs.
The five fixed penalty notices were given to youngsters in the Fairfield area of Stockton as part of a drive to reduce rubbish in the town.
Stockton Borough Council's anti-social behaviour team is now joining local schools, residents and businesses to prevent litter.
The anti-social behaviour enforcement officer will work with council enforcement officers to patrol the area, raising the awareness of litter issues among residents, with particular focus on young people.
It will be part of a programme that has been running in recent months around Stockton.
Officers will also visit schools to talk to pupils about littering, anti-social behaviour and under-age drinking, and will tell them of the fines and sanctions they could face if caught
