POLICE have warned motorists not to leave anything on display in their vehicles following a number of car break-ins around Darlington.

Thieves have stolen handbags, cigarettes, a CD player and clothes.

Yesterday, Darlington Police Inspector, Alan Davidson, said: "A lot of crime is opportunistic. If valuables are on display, then they will attract the attention of those individuals who walk along the roads scanning the interiors of parked cars. Please lock things away in compartments or the boot of your car."

At about 11.30pm last Friday, a group of young men on bikes were seen breaking into a car in Blackmoor Close. A jacket was stolen.

On Friday night, thieves forced open the door of a car in Brinkburn Drive and stole a CD player.

Shortly after 6pm on Saturday, a bag was stolen from a car in Melland Street. That night, at about 10pm, cigarettes were stolen from a car in Rennie Walk.

At about 7pm on Sunday, a handbag was stolen from a car in Welbeck Avenue.

Later that night a car in Springfield Road was broken-into and a handbag stolen.
