DRIVERS are being warned to expect delays at a Bishop Auckland crossroad while contractors resurface the road.

The work, being carried out by Durham County Council, will mean the closure of the B6282 at the Cockton Hill, Cabin Gate and St Andrew's Road junction for two days from noon on Saturday, September 3.

Traffic will be controlled by three-way traffic lights and motorists will be advised to take a diversion from Cabin Gate to St Andrew's Road south on Watling Road and left on to the A688 to the junction with St Andrew's Road.

David Miller, Durham County Council's acting director of environment, said: "We appreciate that this will cause some disruption and inconvenience, but there's no other way to do the resurfacing.

"Access to properties in Clifford Avenue will be from the eastern end of St Andrew's Road and extra care will need to be taken by traffic using this route.

"Traffic sensors in the road will also have to be re-installed and this will be done on Sunday, September 11.

"We won't need to close the road to do this, but we will have to use temporary four-way traffic lights to control traffic."
