A COMMUNITY banking scheme in Trimdon village is inviting new members to join.
People who live or work in the area can join Trimdon Credit Union, which is a non-profit organisation offering basic savings schemes and loans.
Isabel English, who helped to establish the co-operative six weeks ago, said: "A credit union can provide savings, loans and financial advice for people in an area without a local bank.
"Because it is community run it will cater for the needs of the local community. There will be support staff and volunteers, who will undergo rigorous training and treat all matters confidentially."
The union will be open at Trimdon Labour Club, Front Street South, every Thursday, from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
