THREE fire engines were called to a town centre house yesterday morning after a window frame caught fire.

It is believed that the occupier was using an electric paint stripper on the window frame when it ignited at 10.46am.

Two fire engines from Northallerton and a third from Thirsk attended the property at 53 South Parade, Northallerton, and used breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to help deal with the blaze.

They did not leave the scene until after 12.30pm and revisited the property in the afternoon.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "Three engines were sent as a precaution due to the flames coming out of the window.

"Shortly afterwards, it was discovered that it was just the window itself that was on fire."

The spokesman added that the window frame was badly damaged, but the rest of the house escaped unscathed.
