A FRESH appeal is being made to Darlington residents, asking them to report young people acting suspiciously on school property over the summer holidays.
Darlington's Community Safety Partnership, led by Darlington Borough Council and the police, is asking people to report youths, who are acting suspiciously or misbehaving on school grounds.
The partnership wants to reduce the number of attacks on school property over the summer as well as helping to reduce feelings of fear and intimidation from anti-social behaviour.
In the past, during the holidays, schools in the borough have been targeted by graffiti artists, vandals, burglars and arsonists.
Following an attack, insurance premiums rise leaving less money for education.
Sergeant Paul Robinson, of the community safety team, said: "People living near to schools can really help us by just keeping an eye on what goes on in the same way as they look out for a neighbour's house."
Chris McEwan, the borough council's cabinet member for children's services, said: "I would urge young people to keep well away from schools, unless there is an organised activity taking place, both for their own safety and to protect the buildings."
Residents who witness youths acting suspiciously or misbehaving on school grounds are asked to call police on 0845 606 0365.
