A RADIO presenter will help Doris Atkinson blow out the candles to celebrate her 100th birthday.
It will be the icing on the cake for Mrs Atkinson when Stewart McFarlane arrives today from BBC Radio Cleveland.
Mrs Atkinson, whose birthday is on August 22, will meet Mr McFarlane at the Trinity Friendship Group, in Whinney Banks, Middlesbrough, at a party organised in her honour.
The group has also organised a birthday cake.
The friendship group is one of a number of activities organised by the Retired Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) and West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust (WMNT) to encourage people over 50 to live healthier, more active lives.
WMNT chairwoman Joan Ford said: "We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Doris and hope she has a wonderful party at the friendship group.
"This group is just one of the ways we are encouraging older people to stay active and enjoy socialising in a friendly atmosphere.
"We hope Doris enjoys many more parties there."
Ms Atkinson and more than 20 other members attend the group once a month on a Monday to enjoy activities, social outings and a chat.
RSVP development manager Carol Reynolds said: "Doris has been coming to Trinity Friendship Group for over four years now and we cannot wait to see her face light up when Stewart arrives.
"We are also looking forward to seeing her telegram from Her Majesty the Queen at our next meeting."
The friendship group members meet at Trinity Church Hall, Stainsby Road, Whinney Banks, on the first Monday of every month, from 2pm to 3.30pm.
To join the group, contact Ms Reynolds on (01642) 231560.
