A DEDICATED local volunteer has been rewarded for her outstanding contribution to motorcycle sport this week.
Ann Cairns was presented with the Christopher Horn Award, a regionally-recognised trophy, presented by the North-East Autocycle Union to motorcycle riders or workers who contribute to the sport.
Ms Cairns worked as a volunteer with Iveston and Satley Motocross Club for ten years, retiring last year.
The club is responsible for bringing back British Championship events to the North-East, with a track at Witton Castle which attracts riders from all over the country.
Ms Cairns, of Wolsingham Road, Tow Law, filled many roles at the club, from entry secretary to advertising events.
Ms Cairns, who works for 2D CVS and Volunteer Centre, said: "While it was a demanding hobby, I met some first-class people during my time there and it has led to me enjoying the sport as a rider.
"My BMW 1200 GS road bike now takes up my spare time. I would like to thank the North-East Autocycle Union for the award."
The trophy - named after Whitley Bay motorcyclist Chris Horn - was presented by Steve McCauley and Fred Nicholson, of the North-East Autocycle Union.
This year is the Year of the Volunteer, and this month celebrates volunteers in sport.
