A SPONSORED walk has been organised in a scenic part of Derwentside to raise money for people who suffer from dementia.
The Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk 2005 will take place in Allensford Country Park.
Derwentside residents are being encouraged to take part on September 18, at 2pm. It is one of a number of similar events taking place in the UK ahead of World Alzheimer's Day, on September 21.
The walk will be in a grassy area of the country park along the banks of the River Derwent. The route is flat and suitable for everyone.
Jennifer Askew, a volunteer who is organising the event, said: "We would like to see as many local people as possible turn out to support the event.
"Mermory Walk is a great way to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
"Everyone can join in and have a good time taking some gentle exercise in the fresh air.
"The event also lets us tell more people about the support and advice the Derwentside branch of the society can provide people with in the local community."
Memory Walk was launched in the United States in 1989 and in London in 2002. It has been adopted by a number of countries around the world.
