PENSIONER Gordon Ellerker is bringing the sound of music to the aisles of his supermarket - and gaining a growing fan club.
The 79-year-old started a one-man sing-while-you-shop routine in a supermarket near his home in Starbeck, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, several years ago.
He has since built up a following as his tenor voice echoes around the aisles at Morrisons superstore, in Hookstone Chase.
Mr Ellerker, a former member of a church choir in Ripon, said singing came naturally to him.
"As soon as I start to wheel the trolley, I get the urge to sing," he said.
His favourite aisle arias at the moment include My Old Man's a Dustman, Run Rabbit, Run and When You're Smiling.
"I used to sing while riding my bike but after a couple of accidents I decided to call biking a day," he said.
"But it is far more soothing singing with my trolley and not having all those motorists to worry about."
A member of the congregation at Woodlands Methodist Church in Harrogate, Mr Ellerker was asked to join a local singing group when they visited. But he turned down the offer, saying he would save his voice for his shopping trips.
Morrisons' manager Paul Saville said customers found his singing fun and amusing.
He added: "Gordon is just one of the world's characters and obviously loves his singing.
"I don't mind it, each to their own. He is not a nuisance."
