A COMMUNITY group has vowed not to be beaten by mindless vandals who targeted their latest contribution to the community.
Two £800 notice boards in Fishburn's Stone Cross Community Garden, and at Fishburn Wetlands, were vandalised within hours of the second one being installed on Saturday morning.
Members of the Fishburn In Bloom committee, which secured grants to buy the boards, were devastated when both glass fronts were smashed.
Committee chairman John Irvine said: "We won't let the vandals win, they have damaged flower beds on the village green before, but we keep pulling together to keep improving the neighbourhood.
"The sad thing is that we think the culprits are probably local. We would like to find out who is responsible so they can be taken to task.
"It will cost £100 to replace the fronts of the notice boards and we were lucky to save artwork done by the Age Concern art club."
Police are investigating the damage, which they believe was caused by an air rifle being fired at the boards, and urge anyone with information to call them on (0845) 606 0365.
Community beat officer PC Keith Todd said: "It is sad when people work to make things better only for a small group to try and spoil it."
