SOME of the country's brightest young people will be travelling to the North-East on Sunday to take part in a summer school.
All of the students aged between 11 and 16 will be at Durham University for two weeks as part of the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth (Nagty).
The youngsters will engage in intensive learning with some of the university's leading academics.
Durham is one of seven higher education institutions running summer schools in conjunction with Nagty.
During the two weeks, each students will specialise in a single subject and will be taught by leading academics and teachers.
The students will take part in external visits, practical challenges and debates.
There will also be time set aside for private study, sports and social activities.
Nicola Northcott, from the university's undergraduate admissions office and the Nagty summer school director said:
"We are really looking forward to welcoming this year's group of 135 gifted and talented young people.
"We feel the summer school offers a different way of studying and thinking not normally provided in a school environment which we hope will motivate them to become even higher achievers.
