MARTIN Scott believes Hartlepool United are now starting to see what Jon Daly is all about.

The Pool boss gave the big striker a start at Bournemouth on Tuesday and Daly impressed at the Fitness First Stadium.

Last season's top scorer Adam Boyd was sacrificed in favour of target man Daly and now Scott must decide who to play at Doncaster tomorrow.

Daly combined with new signing Lee Bullock for the midfielder to open the scoring in midweek and Scott admitted: "It was a good goal by Lee the other night and he will show what a good signing he is.

"Big Jon Daly set him up well and he caused problems all night. I made some changes from Saturday and it was disappointing for Boydy and Chris (Llewellyn).

"I felt we had to bring Jon in. He has looked bright pre-season and against Bradford when he came on and he carried it on at Bournemouth.

"He won his fair share of headers and caused problems. I know he found it hard to reach our fitness levels when he first came to the club, because we set very high standards here.

"But he is a good player, we knew that all along and we are starting to see it.''

Scott paired Darren Williams and Micky Nelson in the middle of defence and was pleased with the performance of his back line.

"Darren played in the middle and is still two weeks behind fitness-wise from pre-season, but he looked solid,'' said Scott.

"I think Ben Clark looked the same and we were much tighter. Ritchie (Humphreys) was left back again and looked like he has played their all his career, he's done very well.

"We've had two tough games so far and another one at Doncaster on Saturday.

"We are two games into it, so it was nice to get off the mark the other night.

"I wanted to win last Saturday, of course, but I was confident of coming home from Bournemouth with at least a point.

"We had over 200 fans there on a Tuesday night and that point was for them as well. They deserved it and the players appreciated it.''
