PREPARATIONS are well under way to make this year's Wensleydale Show better than ever.
Several new classes have been launched, including "Class 328, Mrs Green's Orange Cake".
The class will keep alive the memory of Mary Green, who served on the lady's committee of the agricultural show for 20 years before her death earlier this year.
Cakes have to be made to Mrs Green's favourite recipe. Already, 16 entries have been submitted.
Her daughter, Janet, who is now a committee member, has donated a cookery book as a prize.
New show chairman Julie Clarke is the first lady to hold the position in the show's history.
Spurred on by her new responsibilities, she has completed her first entry for the knitting competition.
Organisers are hoping for a record number of entries in other classes, which include cattle, sheep, heavy horses, ponies, carriage driving, horticulture, drystone walling, vintage cars and tractors.
The show takes place in fields off Bellerby Road, Leyburn, on Saturday, August 27, from 10am. Adult entry is £5 and car parking is free.
