PUPILS from two schools pedalled to a picnic yesterday at the first new park created in Darlington in 100 years.
Children from Heathfield Primary School and Abbey Junior School rode to West Park for fun and games with members of Darlington Borough Council's road safety team and Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity.
The picnic was part of the Bike It scheme, which aims to get more young people cycling.
Bike It has been running for two years. Abbey school will become a Bike It school in September. Getting people of all ages to think about different forms of transport is part of the Darlington Town on the Move initiative, a national pilot project.
