A TOWN proved to be head and shoulders above the rest by staging an outdoor roller skating disco.

And a former disco jockey, known for his lion's-mane hair style, has been chosen to host it.

Ex-TV Fun House presenter and eighties Radio One DJ, Pat Sharp, is hosting the event in Middlesbrough's Albert Park on Tuesday.

Park officer Stuart Johnson said: "After three years of major restoration work, Albert Park was officially re-opened on September 18, last year.

"One of the most significant developments of the restoration scheme was the reopening of the roller skating rink. We are delighted to be hosting the first roller disco for Middlesbrough.

"It's going to be a real fun event for all the family and mums can get a bit nostalgic as they skate.''

Maxine Freer, regional marketing controller for co-organisers of the event, Century FM, said: "It makes perfect sense to have Pat host the roller disco.

"He epitomized everything we fondly remember about the cheesiest decade of the twentieth century - a mullet that no footballer, even Chris Waddle, could compete with, stonewash jeans that clung to his thighs, and the craziest, wackiest, most green gunk-filled kids TV show ever to grace the box in the shape of Fun House."
