YOUNGSTERS from North Yorkshire proved they could rise to a challenge set by the world's only formation wing-walking team.

The renowned Utterly Buttery team encouraged schools across the country to take part in a competition.

All the regional honours went to North Yorkshire - with Holy Trinity primary at Ripon and Masham CE taking first and third respectively and Burnsall primary at Skipton taking second.

All the schools were challenged to build a replica of the wing-walking team's 1940s biplanes to win cash prizes.

They used a variety of materials from papier-mch to old coat-hangers - and a great deal of imagination - to come up with their eye-catching designs.

The Ripon school -whose winning entry is pictured right -won £1,000 and a chance for one of the school's teachers to have a go at wing-walking. The runners-up each won £300.

The prize giving ceremony will take place at the Yorkshire Air Show at Elvington, near York, to be held on August 21, when the Utterly Butterlys will also be taking to the air.
