A RECRUITMENT drive to find more special constables is under way.
The Special Constabulary recruitment team of Durham Police will be at the BikeWise event, at force headquarters in Aykley Heads, Durham City, from 10am to 5pm, on Sunday, August 14.
Volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions and explain the role of special constables.
Further events will be held in the coming weeks to recruit more volunteers in Wear Valley, Teesdale and Sedgefield.
There has been a marked increase in the number of special constables in the county over recent months, with people from all walks of life volunteering to help tackle crime and reassure the public with a uniformed presence.
Constables are paid £1,500 annually if they serve a minimum six hours a week.
Anyone interested in joining, is asked to call (01325) 742060 or visit the team at Bikewise.
