A POPULAR Teesside seaside resort is bracing itself for one of its biggest events in years.
Thousands of people are expected to descend on Seaton Carew next weekend to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Throughout the two days there will be mock battles, military displays, demonstrations, war memorabilia stores and a children's fair.
The event is organised by the Elmtree Park Community Association, with help from the Northern WW2 Association, Normandy 44 and the Heugh Gun Battery Trust.
Terri Lawson, secretary of the community association, said: "We have worked very hard to put together a full programme of events.
"One of the main reasons for the celebrations is to show the children of today what happened 60 years ago.
"Men and women died for our freedom and visitors will see the re-enactment of the Battle of Anzio on the beach. There was a cease fire from all sides with the wounded and dead being carried from the battlefield."
Most of the activities will be staged behind the clock tower.
On the Saturday, there will be a renewal of wedding vows recreated by members of the Northern WW2 Association dressed in 1940s clothing.
A memorial service on the green starts at noon on the Sunday, followed by a procession to the cenotaph.
Events run from 10am on both days.
Programmes are available from tomorrow at the central library, Cards are Hudsons, Marine Hotel and Borough Hall.
