A VILLAGE has held four litter picks since March to brighten up the environment.
Villagers have collected litter from verges and hedges and some of the main roads in Heighington.
More than 150 black bags of rubbish were collected along with several items which were too bulky to be bagged.
The village has also been involved in an anti-litter poster competition for young people.
The Mayor of Darlington, Stella Robson, presented Claudia Ryman with a prize for the best hand-drawn poster, and Mary McAneney and Becky Burton with prizes for the best computer-generated poster.
There is also a competition for pupils at Heighington Primary School to compose anti-litter slogans.
The next litter pick will be on Saturday, October 29.
