A FORMER mushroom farmer is hoping to shoot down the competition as he moves into a different business arena.
Stuart Eglington has just opened a paintball business at Cumby Plantation, Heighington.
And after being inspired by The Northern Echo's No Messin' campaign, he will host under-18 only days at Paintball Mania.
The No Messin' campaign was launched in conjunction with Network Rail to highlight the dangers of railway crime, while promoting positive activities for youngsters.
Mr Eglington has designed four paintballing areas.
He said: "There is a big market for paintballing in this area. We are very close to the Aycliffe Industrial Estate, so it is easy to get to from Darlington, Newcastle and Middlesbrough."
Mr Eglington has been working with his father, Alan, over the past few years.
But when his mushroom business stopped being profitable, he branched out into recreation.
He has built and designed the paintball centre in an area of his father's woodland.
"I have had my own part of the business for the past few years, but it wasn't really profitable any more, so I decided to have a change."
Mr Eglington hopes to attract business from across the area, including stag and hen parties.
The summer holiday special is for 12 to 18-year-olds. No adults will be allowed to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school summer holidays.
Those who take part in the under-18 days will get 50 free paintballs when they pay £4.99 for a day. They can buy an extra l 100 balls for £5.99.
Alternatively, players can pay £20 and get a full day's play and 300 paintballs.
