POLICE are again urging people to store their car keys out of sight after two vehicles were stolen following house break-ins.
The cars were stolen in Malton and Norton after the thieves broke into the owners' homes to take the keys.
Police said owners needed to do more than lock their car outside their home.
PC Terry Triffitt, of the Safer Ryedale community safety partnership, said: "On these two occasions, the thieves broke into properties to take the car keys, so it is clear they are prepared to take high risks to steal cars.
"What we suggest you do is put your keys in a drawer somewhere out of sight and take them upstairs with you when you go to bed. Do not leave them lying around or hanging on key hooks."
Land Rover owners are also being urged to take precautions after three were stolen from Malton car parks in the past fortnight.
PC Triffitt said: "We do find that Land Rover thefts can run in spates, so I want to put owners on alert. I recommend using additional security measures such as good-quality steering locks.
"Land Rover vehicles of any age have a high second-hand value, and this makes them good targets for car thieves.
