A DISQUALIFIED motorist has been remanded in custody after being caught driving at high speeds through Middlesbrough.
Shaun Kevin Nixon was in a mile-and-half police chase at speeds of up to 70mph before his arrest in the early hours of Monday, July 25.
The 28-year-old, of Laycock Street, pleaded guilty at Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and failure to stop.
He was spotted driving along Acklam Road without his lights on but failed to stop when police challenged him and then drove off at speed.
Officers followed the Vauxhall Astra as it sped along Acklam Road, taking roundabouts at speeds of up to 70mph. After a short chase, Nixon pulled over and ran off but was later arrested.
In mitigation, solicitor Nicolas Woodhouse said: "He is ashamed to find himself back in court. He feels he has let his partner and his young family down."
Magistrates remanded Nixon in custody. He will be sentenced at a later date.
