TWO projects to help people with diabetes have been set up.
Weekly insulin workshops for people with type two diabetes are to take place from 9am to noon every Tuesday at the Diabetes Centre in the University Hospital of North Durham.
Meanwhile, a series of lifestyle programme sessions to encourage diabetics to exercise more have been set up at the Abbey Sports Centre, in Pity Me, Durham City. The two-hour sessions take place on Thursday afternoons.
Both programmes have been organised by Durham and Chester-le-Street Primary Care Trust (PCT).
Kenvyn Murray, specialist diabetes nurse for the PCT, said: "The new insulin workshops will help patients to manage and adjust their insulin doses to achieve as good a control of their blood glucose as they can.
"It is also a great opportunity for patients to discuss their feelings and have their questions answered by health professionals in a relaxed and informal setting."
The lifestyle programme is a series of 11-week courses.
Mr Murray added: "Both projects are aimed at improving patients' knowledge and understanding of diabetes and its effects."
