MOTORISTS were faced with major delays yesterday after a motorway was closed for nine hours after an accident.
A collision between two lorries caused misery for drivers on the A1 northbound in North Yorkshire.
The accident happened at Ainderby Quernhow, west of Thirsk, at about 6.30am.
One lorry driver suffered a broken ankle and broken wrist and was taken to the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton. The other driver was uninjured.
Agricultural engineer Jonathan Robinson works at a unit only yards from the scene of the accident.
He said: "One wagon was laid on its side across both carriageways.
"The trailer had been ripped open and boxes had spilt out.
"The cab was a real mess and the driver was lucky to get out alive."
