TWO County Durham Rotary Clubs have appointed their new presidents for the coming year.
Maria Luisa Massagli is the president of the Rotary Club of Crook for 2005 to 2006, and is both the first lady member of Crook Rotary and also the first lady president.
Rotary member Ken Davison said: "Although Maria has not been a Rotarian for too long, she brings with her a long and active membership of Rotaract, Rotary's junior version, so should be well equipped to lead the Rotary Club of Crook forward.
"She has already set the twin goals of increasing membership and developing a more noticeable role in the local community."
Meanwhile David Hogg, a partner at Close Thornton Solicitors, in Darlington, has replaced David Burrows as president of the Newton Aycliffe Rotary club.
His chosen charity for the year is the Great North Air Ambulance, but the club also supports many other charities. He is a keen narrow boat enthusiast.
Mr Hogg said: "My hope is to expand membership from the business community in Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding areas so that we can continue to develop our charitable activities."
