TRAFFIC police have been given a new weapon in their fight against rogue motorists and travelling criminals.
A £4,800 camera system has been installed on a police traffic car that patrols the Hambleton district.
The system has been paid for by the Hambleton Community Safety Partnership as part of its continuing fight against crime.
Through a digital video system images are recorded via a front-mounted camera within the patrol car and alongside that is a Vascar system that measures speed and records the evidence of the vehicle being checked.
And with the addition of the latest in automated number plate reading the car can be used for all manner of crimes.
"The car is regularly tasked on speed enforcement, to watch for travelling criminals and on other road safety initiatives," said partnership officer Sergeant John Clayton
"This equipment boosts our crime-fighting capability enormously. We can capture video evidence from road safety issues - educating drivers by playback facilities."
