FARMERS are being given support to diversify, including advice on environmentally-friendly schemes.
The Rural Development Service (RDS) in the North-East is taking to the road this summer for a tour of the region's agricultural shows to highlight its work.
RDS advisor James Milner said: "We are keen to encourage farmers and landowners to sign up to RES and want to hear from those with ideas to develop new and existing businesses, which could be eligible for RES support.
"We're working hard to help the region meet the government's targets under the Sustainable Food and Farming Strategy and the various schemes can provide vital support to help us achieve this."
The RDS list of show appearances will include:
* August 13: Slaley, Northumberland
* August 27: Bellingham, Northumberland
* September 10: Bowes, Teesdale, County Durham
* September 17: Eggleston, Teesdale, County Durham
* September 17: Stokesley Show, Stokesley, North Yorkshire
