POLICE were last night continuing the hunt for a hoax caller whose prank sparked the evacuation of the Williamson Motors football stadium.
The pre-season friendly between Darlington and Middlesbrough, on July 23, was abandoned at half-time after police received a call from a man claiming there was a bomb in the Quakers' ground.
Thousands of supporters, watching a testimonial match for former Darlington favourite Craig Liddle, had to leave the stadium as a result.
A search found no evidence of any device, leading to widespread condemnation of the hoaxer from the emergency services and the football club.
The call was traced to a phone box in McMullen Road, Darlington.
Last night, a Durham Police spokesman said: "We are still awaiting the outcome of forensic tests that were carried out on the phone box."
Darlington FC has since introduced a random bag search policy at the stadium.
