AN overgrown allotment has been transformed into a Parisian park.
Volunteers raised £1,500 to convert the abandoned plot in York into a pitch for the French game boules.
Fifteen local residents transformed the area by removing rubbish and undergrowth. It is now hoped the local community will take up the game, also known as petanque, which is popular throughout France.
Project co-ordinator Rebecca Horner said: "I first discovered petanque about two years ago and loved the game immediately. Friends, fresh air, a bit of friendly competition - who could ask for a better summer evening?"
Al Oswald, chairman of Low Moor Allotments Association, said: "Allotment gardening is changing.
"Many people are realising that an allotment - like any other garden -- is a place to relax and have fun, not just grow vegetables."
Families will be able to hire out the pitch, at the Low Moor allotment, between Fulford Road and Heslington Road, for free.
