A PROPOSAL to enclose a garden in a Teesdale village has hit a brick wall.
The proposal is to erect a 1.7 metre high stone wall to separate the curtilage of a property in Gilmour Garth, Cotherstone, from the road, and to build a stone and timber conservatory at the rear of the house.
Cotherstone Parish Council has objected to the application, and said the height of the wall should match the height of the other walls in Gilmour Garth.
However, Teesdale District Council is recommending the that the work, at a property called The Butts, is approved.
Planning officer Andrew Bishop said: "The proposed wall would give a degree of privacy and physical separation from the traffic entering and leaving the cul-de-sac.
"The proposed wall height at 1.7 metres is reasonable for enclosing the private rear of a listed property and would match in with the boundary walling to the rear of the original dwelling Gilmour House."
Teesdale District Council's planning committee will discuss the application on Wednesday, at 5.30pm, at Teesdale House, Barnard Castle.
