DARLINGTON manager David Hodgson is backing Dutch defender Shelton Martis to make a big impression at the Williamson Motors Stadium.
Martis will this week sign a six-month deal with Quakers.
Hodgson secured the services of the 22-year-old, whose first half performance against Middlesbrough sparked interest from other clubs.
"Shelton showed his class against Middlesbrough and all the members of the coaching staff were very impressed," said Hodgson.
"Other clubs had been looking at him and I'm delighted to have agreed a deal and I'm sure he'll be a huge asset."
Hodgson is also confident midfielder Anthony Peacock can be a success despite his size. The 19-year-old, freed by Middlesbrough in May, is just 5ft 4ins. However, Hodgson hopes the youngster can prove himself during an initial six-month contract.
"Anthony maybe small in stature but his control, passing and determination are superb and I don't think his height will be an issue," said Hodgson.
"He is a tremendous footballer and I felt he deserved a chance to prove himself and I'm confident he'll repay my faith in him."
With the start of the season just five days away, Hodgson could yet add two more new faces before the trip to Nene Park.
Trialists Carlos Logan and Andy Ferrell are both vying for the left midfield slot, although Hodgson yet make a move for Newcastle youngster Alan O'Brien, who assisted three of his side's four goals in Friday's win at Hartlepool.
Along with Logan and Ferrell, former Sheffield Wednesday striker Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu could earn another chance to seal a permanent move in today's behind-closed-doors game with Bradford City.
The Congolese forward scored in Friday night's friendly win at Durham City and is a free agent after leaving Colchester.
Defender David McGurk is expected to complete a six-month loan move to York City this week. Quakers have received approaches from two other clubs although the 22-year-old is likely to opt for a return to KitKat Crescent where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season.
The Minstermen were keen on taking McGurk on a permanent basis, although Hodgson has stressed the Middlesbrough-born stopper still has a future at the Williamson Motors Stadium.
Despite figuring for Quakers in pre-season, young defender Chris Mason will gain first-team experience by joining Harrogate Town, managed by Neil Aspin, on a temporary basis this week.
