FREE home insulation has been installed in nearly 500 private properties in east Durham since the launch of a keep warm scheme for the elderly.
Easington District Council has spent more than £175,000 installing free loft and cavity wall insulation, as well as providing low-energy light bulbs to 487 homes across the district.
The scheme aims to help homeowners, aged 60 and over, to reduce their fuel bills and stay warmer.
Council chairman Councillor Joyce Maitland said: "I would encourage anyone who hasn't yet applied to the scheme to call as soon as they can.
"We have already had an excellent demand and I'm sure it will continue to be very popular.''
