STUDENTS and staff at a Spennymoor school have been rewarded for promoting healthy lifestyles even before celebrity chef Jamie Oliver put it on the political agenda.
Tudhoe Grange School, near Spennymoor, has been awarded a healthy schools award for reaching the County Durham and Darlington Healthy Schools standard as promoted by local health authorities and councils.
Sedgefield Borough Councillor Agnes Armstrong presented the award to two pupils, Ian Geldard and Christopher Stones, from the school council.
Ian said: "We introduced a sandwich bar and healthy snacks at lunchtimes a while ago and worked with companies to deliver better foods for everyone."
Coun Armstrong said: "It is important that healthy living is a way of life and needs to promoted in schools.
