A BAN on off-road vehicles using green lanes in the Yorkshire Dales has been extended.
North Yorkshire County Council decided to apply the restriction on four country lanes for a further year.
The ban was imposed in March last year amid fears 4x4 vehicles and trail bikes were churning up the routes and making them unusable for walkers and cyclists.
Councillor Peter Sowray, the council's executive member for the environment, said: "Measures like this need to be considered because of the special qualities of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and, in particular, its landscape, character, scenic beauty, wildlife and peacefulness."
The ban has been extended on Mastiles Lane, Kilnsey; Topmere Road/Starbotton Cam Road, Kettlewell; Long Lane, Clapham and Halton Gill, Yockenthwaite.
Off-road vehicle enthusiasts, councillors and national park officials are working on a strategy for the future management of all green lanes in North Yorkshire.
