TORRENTIAL rain partially flooded the Pembrey circuit in South Wales last weekend but it couldn't prevent Dave Bellerby from Northallerton recording his second straight K&N Filters SuperModified win coupled with a great drive into third place in the MSA British Rallycross Championship Superfinal.
Fastest times from the second and third heats secured the SuperModified pole position for Leeming bus driver Kevin Procter before the Motoscope Lotus driver then led the final until the last lap.
Having chosen to run on wet weather tyres, Procter came under increasing pressure from Bellerby in the Kevin Franks-prepared Simon Bailes Peugeot 206 on the drying track, and lost his lead within sight of the finish line as Bellerby moved ahead to record his second successive victory.
* Mark Thompson from Evenwood and co-driver Giles Dykes from Barnard Castle were out competing in their BELTS Ltd and Williamson Motors-backed Peugeot 206 on last weekend's Opposite Lock Stages Rally held at Manby Airfield in Lincolnshire.
The first four stages were mostly gravel and saw the crew struggling with tyre selection and the car set-up for the loose and bumpy stages. After the opening four stages, the crew were lying 21st overall and 8th in class.
Stages five and six were all tarmac and on these stages the crew put in 5th and 10th fastest times overall. This lifted the crew to 16th overall and 5th in class. But with the last two stages being mainly loose surface again, the crew dropped back one place overall and in class to 17th overall and 6th in class.
* Round three of the popular North East Motor Cycle Racing Club championship series gets underway at Croft Circuit this weekend with another capacity field set to battle out the various classes.
Following the previous round held at East Fortune near Edinburgh, local riders are well placed in all of the classes going into the action which forms the penultimate round of the four round NEMCRC series.
Teenager Chris Coates from Gateshead leads both the F600 class as well as the Laird of Croft aboard his ex-Jamie Robinson Yamaha R6 and again will prove a hard act to beat. But other riders who intend to have a say include Chester le Street's Dave Bell who leads the 1300cc Open Class on his Suzuki and Tynesider Keith Pringle who heads the Ken Redfern Trophy on his Kawasaki.
* The Richmond Motor Club held their Reeth 3-day trial at the weekend. This is its third year and victory went to Dan Thorpe for the third year finishing clear of John Crinson.
