A BRAVE young girl was the VIP guest for the day at a high street store's reopening.
Leukaemia sufferer Chloe Latcham, who is preparing for bone marrow surgery, cut the ribbon to mark the completion of a refurbishment of the Durham City branch of Woolworths.
The six-year-old, from Toronto, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, was chosen from several children nominated to perform the honours.
Her name was put forward by her aunt, Janice Dixon, because of the courageous way she has fought leukaemia, since it was first diagnosed in 2002.
Following intensive treatment it was thought she had beaten the disease last summer, but she suffered a relapse in January and now must undergo a potential life-saving bone marrow transplant, at Newcastle General Hospital, on August 12.
Chloe, accompanied by mother Sharon, cousin Jake Dixon and Mrs Dixon, were treated to a champagne breakfast at the store, in Silver Street.
