POLICE are warning people in Teesdale to be vigilant after a spate of shed burglaries.
The warning comes after Barnard Castle School's groundsman's shed was broken into over the weekend.
The burglars stole tools and several items of gardening equipment.
Their haul included a blue Stihl saw, a Kawasaki strimmer engraved with the letters BCS, a Husqvarna chainsaw and a Stihl chainsaw, a green Hayter lawnmower, a 40-piece socket set, a Clarke battery charger, a green Bosch battery drill and a 4in grinder.
Sergeant Bill Dutton, of Barnard Castle police, said: "We have seen a gradual rise in the number of thefts from sheds and garages over the past two months as the warmer weather sets in.
"We appeal to people to maintain their vigilance and ensure their belongings are secure."
Anyone who has any information about the thefts or has been offered any of the stolen property for sale is asked to call PC Tony Kent or Acting Sergeant Jeremy Downing on 0845 606 0365.
Alternatively information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
