NORTH Yorkshire Police has appointed a new deputy chief constable.
Ian McPherson will succeed Roger Baker, who recently left to become chief constable of Essex Constabulary.
Mr McPherson, currently an assistant chief constable with Merseyside Police, will join the county force on September 5.
Councillor Jane Kenyon, chairman of North Yorkshire Police Authority, said: "We are always keen to bring new talent to this area and Ian is building a strong reputation for innovation and delivery.
"His current role for Merseyside Police involves development of neighbourhood policing and making sure that the police service engages effectively with the public.
"He also works in this field at a national level and so will make a contribution immediately to North Yorkshire Police's work in this area."
Chief Constable Della Cannings said: "I am pleased Ian will bring his expertise to further improve performance and service to our communities."
Mr McPherson spent his early police service as a uniformed officer with Lancashire Police, later moving to CID.
He later became operational commander for Blackpool and Fylde, before being appointed divisional commander for the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale area.
