WITH the country on such a high state of alert over terrorist attacks, it is inevitable that our lives will be disrupted by bomb scares.

The majority of them will be due to well-intentioned, vigilant people voicing honest concerns to the emergency services. But some will be the result of idiots who think it is funny or clever to make a hoax call.

Yesterday, police issued a description of a man they want to question about a hoax call which led to Saturday's football match between Darlington and Middlesbrough being abandoned.

Thousands of supporters had to be evacuated at half-time, causing disappointment as well as chaos.

What made it particularly sad was that the match had been organised as a testimonial for Darlington favourite Craig Liddle. It was the supporters' chance to show their appreciation of his services to the club.

Liddle will not lose out financially as a result of the bomb hoax but it ruined his big day.

So please take careful note of the description of the man the police want to trace. We hope the police catch him quickly and bring him before a court so we can publish his photograph and parade him as the moron he clearly is.

Bomb hoaxes aren't funny. They are thoughtless, they are dangerous and they waste valuable police time.

If you know this hoaxer, or any other, don't hesitate to call the police.
