BENCHES made from 150-year-old timbers salvaged from Hartlepool Marina will be presented to a Darlington school.

The gifts will be used by pupils at the new Harrowgate Hill School, which opens later this year.

North-East landscape architects Anthony Walker and Partners designed the benches, as well as litter bins and bollards using the old harbour props.

The wood was removed from the docks about 15 years ago as part of the redevelopment works by the Teesside Development Corporation.

Hartlepool-based company Hart Moor Farms has made the benches, which will be installed at the school during the summer in time for the new term.

Harrowgate Hill School is being built to bring the infant and junior schools on the site of the existing junior school.
