ENGLISH lessons came to life for youngsters when a famous figure called in to entertain them.
The Shakespeare Festival, at Egglescliffe Comprehensive, on Teesside, was livened up when the Bard visited the school, in the shape of actor Mark Hadlett.
Students at the school, at Eaglescliffe, near Stockton, were entertained by the Shakespeare character, dressed in Elizabethan regalia, with mandolin, sword and writing instruments. He illustrated life in the author's life by reciting tales and facts about 16th Century food, music and gruesome battles.
Students have been performing plays as part of their studies, including The Tempest, Twelfth Night, and songs and sonnets. The plays can be seen from 7.30pm today and tomorrow. Entrance costs £2 and £1.
The Shakespeare Festival is part of the school's contribution to the International Shakespeare Millennium Project. School spokeswoman Ann Robson said: "Shakespeare talked about his life and times and revealed all the sordid details. He is now seen in a whole new light."
