A GROUP of young North-East musicians have been chosen to play at a national festival next month.
The Yangchin group, from Hall Garth School, Middlesbrough, will perform at the National Festival of Music for Youth, in London.
It is the seventh time in eight years that the group have been invited to the event and this year they are one of just 22 groups from across the country chosen to play.
The event will be at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, where the Yangchin group will be performing music from Indonesia and Romania.
The group specialises in playing music on authentic instruments from around the world, and 11 of them recently entertained a German audience during a visit to Hall Garth's partner school in Ober Ramstadt.
The group, who have just recorded a CD, are also rehearsing for their school association's picnic this month.
Head of performing arts Chris Lewis said: "We pride ourselves on a whole range of musical initiatives at Hall Garth and our Yangchin Group is one of them.
"We are delighted that the group will be playing at the National Festival of Music for Youth in London.
"It is an honour for the school and for the pupils who have worked so hard."
