There was only one way Glasgow Rangers fan Martin Thompson would move south of the border - if his wife let him have a room dedicated solely to his favourite team.
Wife Lorraine thought her husband was joking and agreed to his request. But she soon realised the extent of his love for Rangers.
Now, Martin has fulfilled his wish and can sit among treasured mementos of his team, including a wall devoted entirely to his hero Ally McCoist.
Martin agreed to move to Washington, on Wearside, from his native Glasgow, on the condition that he could have a special football room in their new home.
And he has filled it with framed shirts, scarves, pictures and old season tickets.
Lorraine said: "Martin's from Glasgow and I wanted to stay here, so it was a joke at first that he wanted a football room.
"I didn't realise he meant it until he started putting all his things up."
Martin, 32, an engineeer, has covered all four walls of the room with treasured memories of the Scottish football champions.
But Lorraine remains unimpressed, saying: "I just shut the door and pretend it's not there."
