THE rise of Sunderland AFC is continuing to take shape, as the Stadium of Light becomes an even more impressive landmark on the Wearside skyline.
Work is progressing well on the expansion of the all-seater ground less than three years after it opened.
The club is confident the extended North Stand and North-West corner will be ready in time for the new season, in August, increasing capacity by 6,000 to 48,300. Season tickets for the new extension went on general sale yesterday, on a first come, first served basis.
The first glimpses were given to the media yesterday of the growing North Stand, which, in the absence, so far, of its roof, offers far reaching views across Wearside.
Marketing manager Jim Slater said: "The extension is developing at a very quick rate and we are a long way through the building process.
"The view from up here is sensational. There's a fantastic view of the pitch and we are hoping the extended stand will give us the most intimidating crowd in the country."
Mr Slater said the club, which capped season ticket sales at 36,000 last season, would impose a 40,000 limit for next season. It will ensure fans, who through work or financial commitments are unable to take up season tickets, can still buy tickets on a match for match basis.
Season tickets are available from £245 upwards, for adults, from £145 for juniors and from £155 for the disabled.
