THE grounds of a County Durham Medieval manor house are being opened to the public to help a charity appeal.
Crook Hall, near the city centre, is taking part in the British Red Cross Open Gardens 2000 scheme this weekend, when visitors will be able to tour the themed gardens and visit older parts of the hall.
They will also be able to look at flower displays by Durham Flower Club, and Saltburn Victorians will be dressed in period costume.
David Baker, community fund-raising coordinator for the Red Cross's Durham and Teesside branch, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to visit these magnificent Durham gardens and give support to the British Red Cross.
The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday between 1pm and 5pm.
Admission is £3.60 for adults, £2.60 for concessions.
